What is the story of my home?

When this student’s parents bought a heritage home, the family found several historical artifacts.

“I was inspired to do this project when my mum showed me some things she found in our house – an old glass bottle, an iron. I wanted to know who had owned them.”

She began her digging at the city archives and learned to read original census documents as well as birth and death certificates.

Later, the regional coordinator nominated her for the Young Citizen’s video project. In the video below she explores the ways in which built environments connect us to our communities, and asks questions about how preservation connects us to the richness of our past. She was selected to go to Ottawa where the video was presented at a conference and she met the Governor-General.
